Jordana Brewster was born in Panama City, Panama on April 26th of 1980 to her father, Alden Brewster (an investment banker), and her mother, Maria João Leal de Sousa (a former Sports Illustrated cover girl swimsuit model from Brazil). She left Panama when she was two months old, relocating to London where she would spend six years before moving to her mother’s native Rio de Janiero, Brazil and lived there for four years. Within this time, her mother had another lovely daughter named Isabella. During Jordana’s time in Brazil, she got cast as a dancer on the popular kids show, “Xuxa Against Evil.” It didn’t take Jordana long to realize that she wanted to be an actor. She left Brazil at the age of ten, settling in Manhattan, New York, where she would live for the next fifteen years. There she attended Manhattan’s Convent of the Sacred Heart, a catholic school for girls where she appeared in numerous theatrical performances. One of these was Godspell, where she played the part of Jesus Christ.
To pursue her career in acting, after Jordana studied theater at Weist-Barron, she then joined the Professional School for Children. While schooling, she received a one-day job on the television soap opera All My Children as character Anita Santos. It was immediately following this episode that she was offered a continuing role on “As The World Turns” where she played the character Nikki Munson-Graves. She spent 3 years working on ATWT (1995 to 1998). During that time, she was up for a part in the blockbuster movie “Independence Day”. She had to turn down the role because her obligations in her contract with ATWT’s would not permit her time to do it. It was shortly after, that she decided to quit her television job to attend Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut (where her grandfather Kingman Brewster had resided as President from 1963-1977). Having no obligations with television, she then deferred her enrollment at Yale for a year and decided to try motion picture acting.
It turned out to be a nice start when she got the part of Delilah Proffitt in Robert Rodriguez’s sci-fi film “The Faculty”. With the film, came the promotions for the film. She was featured in many Tommy Hilfiger ads and also appeared in the remake of Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall (part 2)” video by Class of 99. She made a featurette along with the other cast members and crew to promote “The Faculty” called “Invasion of the Fright Films”. “Invasion” aired on MTV and Jordana got some major exposure. Shorty after “The Faculty” was released in theaters, Jordana got a part on NBC’s mini-series movie “The 60’s” directed by Lynda Obst. This then led to her first lead role in a film called “The Invisible Circus” by Adam Brooks. Though the movie was only released in limited theaters, it was a learning experience for her. Jordana had started her education at Yale and was entering her sophomore year as an English Major, when she found another role to her liking. Taking time to do the film, she came to play “Mia Toretto” in the surprise blockbuster “The Fast and the Furious”. This movie gave her the much needed exposure to jump-start her career.
Even though Jordana has been relatively quiet in the two years following “The Fast and the Furious”, her name was still well in the minds of producers and directors. Her media exposure has been steadily climbing upward as she has been spotted dating well known celebrities, the most notable are actor Mark Whalberg and Derek Jeter of the New York Yankee’s baseball team. Jordana graduated from Yale University on 2003 and shortly after she starred in the 2005 critically acclaimed coming-of-age independent film Nearing Grace directed by Rick Rosenthal wherein she played the role of the popular and sexy Grace Chance. Shortly after she starred in Angela Robinson’s D.E.B.S. where she played criminal mastermind Lucy Diamond. Her role in D.E.B.S. earned her a loyal and can be even described as a cult-like following and thus an even more stronger fan base.
In 2006 she played the role of Ali in Annapolis which also starred James Franco and Tyrese Gibson. She then starred in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, a prequel to New Line Cinema’s 2003 film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre where played the role of Chrissie. She was recently cast in the upcoming television show known as “Mr and Mrs. Smith”. The show will pickup 6 months after the events of the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith with her playing the role formerly donned by Angelina Jolie and the series is currently in production. Aside from that she will also play Marianna in Angela Robinson’s Girl Trash!, a web series that will be shown in OurChart.com. She is currently engaged to Andrew Form who worked as a producer on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. After dating for a year, they got engaged on November 4, 2006, and told Us Weekly, “It wasn’t a total surprise, but it was very spontaneous. It’s going to be a pretty small destination wedding — next November.”
